Big-firm data, small-firm resources
The North Shore is home to a large number of small, specialised businesses: financial advisors and accountants on Lonsdale, law and real estate offices, medical and dental clinics, engineering and design consultancies, production companies, and many consultants working from home offices in Edgemont, Lynn Valley and Deep Cove. Their clients trust them with personal, financial and legal information.
What most of them don’t have is anyone whose job is security. Protection is often a mix of whatever came with the computers and good intentions. That’s the gap managed cybersecurity closes.
What “managed” actually means
Plenty of businesses own security tools that nobody watches. An alert that fires at midnight and isn’t read until Tuesday doesn’t stop an attack. Managed cybersecurity covers the full cycle:
- Protect. We deploy and configure layered defences: multi-factor authentication, endpoint detection and response on every computer, email filtering and impersonation protection, automated patching, encryption and secure backups.
- Monitor. The security tools we manage are watched around the clock for suspicious sign-ins, malware behaviour, new mailbox forwarding rules and other warning signs.
- Respond. When something looks wrong, we investigate and contain it, isolating a device or locking an account, then explain what happened.
- Improve. Regular reports show your security posture and what to tackle next, within a budget you set.
Home offices are part of the network
Many North Vancouver businesses are partly or fully home-based. A consultant in Deep Cove or an advisor who works from home two days a week needs the same protection as someone in the office. We manage and protect every work laptop regardless of location, secure the home router and Wi-Fi where needed, and make sure company data lives in managed cloud storage rather than on personal devices.
Protecting client trust
For advisors, clinics and law firms, a breach is also a reputation problem and may be a reportable privacy breach under BC’s Personal Information Protection Act. We help you put reasonable safeguards in place, document them, and know what to do if something goes wrong, including who to call and what to record.
Phishing and payment fraud
The most common attacks we see on the North Shore are phishing emails that steal Microsoft 365 passwords and fake invoices or payment requests. Multi-factor authentication, email security and short, practical staff training stop most of them. Regular refresher courses keep the habits sharp.
